A marine engineering contractor in the Philippines required a reliable seawater pumping solution for an offshore operating platform. The system provides cooling water, process water supply, emergency firefighting reserve, and seawater circulation for daily platform operations.
Compared with land-based pumping stations, offshore installations face much harsher service conditions. High chloride concentrations, marine organisms, suspended sand particles, and year-round exposure to salt-laden air can significantly shorten the service life of conventional pumps. In addition, offshore maintenance is expensive and difficult, making equipment reliability a critical consideration during procurement.
The customer requested a pump package capable of continuous operation with excellent corrosion resistance, stable motor performance, and low maintenance requirements.
After reviewing the operating conditions and platform power specifications, the project team selected the 300QJH400-80/2-150KW SS316L Submersible Seawater Pump.
To meet offshore application requirements, all wetted components, including the impellers, pump casing, shaft, diffuser bowls, check valve, and sealing assemblies, were manufactured from SS316L stainless steel. This material offers excellent resistance to pitting corrosion, crevice corrosion, and chloride attack commonly encountered in seawater applications.
The 150kW submersible motor was specially designed for the Philippine 460V/60Hz electrical system, ensuring smooth operation and stable output under varying platform power conditions.
Prior to shipment, the pump underwent comprehensive factory inspections, including hydraulic performance testing, pressure resistance testing, insulation checks, and sealing verification.
Performance data confirmed that the unit consistently achieved the required 400 m³/h flow rate and 80-meter head, while motor temperature rise, vibration levels, and operating current remained within design limits.
The pump package was then prepared for export with seawater-resistant accessories, waterproof submersible cables, and complete English technical documentation for overseas installation and commissioning.
Following commissioning, the pumping system has demonstrated reliable operation in a highly corrosive offshore environment.
